About the Centre for Contemporary Arts

The Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) is a unique contemporary arts organisation at the heart of Glasgow’s city centre and vibrant cultural community.

With an eclectic programme offering visual arts, music, film, talks and performance, there’s always something interesting going on.

CCA curates six major exhibitions a year, showing a wide range of Scottish and international contemporary art, as well as being home to Intermedia Gallery for emerging artists. Fast developing a reputation for world class improvised, experimental and electronic music, CCA also screens independent short, foreign and documentary films otherwise unavailable across the city.

In 2010, CCA also launched a new film programme featuring three brand new strands: Distant Voices, Beta Movement and Reflections on Black. Screening Scottish classics such as I Know Where I’m Going to enchanting artist films like Aurélien Froment’s Théâtre de poche (Pocket Theatre) the CCA film programme presents a varied and exciting selection of films rarely presented in Scotland.

Committed to supporting the development of new work, CCA offers a programme of artist residencies providing studio space and mentoring support. Take a look at this year’s Creative Lab and CALQ residencies.

Entrance to CCA, its exhibitions and many of its events is free, making it an ideal place to spend some time, whether it’s a quick port in a storm, or a leisurely Saturday afternoon.

Come along and engage with the artistic community or simply soak up the creative environment over a coffee or cold beer.

Free wi-fi is available in the courtyard café bar and free computer access is available in the foyer, where you will also find a selection of art books on sale from Aye Aye Books or merchandise available from box office.

CCA also plays host to a number of other cultural organisations and business. We call these our Cultural Tenants. Currently we have 12 Cultural Tenants including The List, Theatre Cryptic, Vanishing Point, Scottish Ensemble, Voice Business, Playwright's Studio, Space 11, Paragon Ensemble, University of the West of Scotland, Camcorder Guerillas and IETM.
