CALQ Residency: Martine H. Crispo

CALQ Residency: Martine H. Crispo

Wednesday 1 October 2008 - Saturday 31 January 2009

Speaking about her CALQ residency, Martine Crispo said:

"For the past 20 years, I have worked as a sound artist presenting live radiophonic performances and sound installations.  More recently, my work has drawn on the spontaneous compositions created by extracting the sounds, words and melodies of children's toys and home-made, electronic objects.  My attraction to these objects goes beyond the quirky, glitchy sounds and rhythms they create.  Quite simply, I love to touch, manipulate and reconstruct them.

"During my residency at CCA in Glascow, I hope to create a playground of operable 'playthings' where the public can fool around with sound.  The playground will fuse the irresistible impulse to fiddle with buttons, switches and knobs with the improvisation of electronic sounds at once lo-fi and familiar, yet unnatural and unexpected."
