Cinemaattic Frontera
In March, they present LA FRONTERA / A RAIA a two day programme to dig in the rich cultural heritage shared between Galicia region (northwest Spain) and Portugal. Never mind theUS - Mexico 'Frontera', something exciting is happening in the westernmost corner of Europe. Geopolitical borders can't split a shared way to frame reality.
THE FILMS - On Thursday, Cinemaattic delivers a mixed programme with short films from Portugal and Galicia. Winners at Berlinale, Locarno and Rotterdam, Portuguese and Galician filmmakers are achieving international recognition challenging traditional film narratives.
Amongst the highlights last year’s Golden Bear for Best Short Film in Berlinale, ‘Cidade pequena’ by Diogo Costa Amarante. One day, the child Frederico learns from his teacher that bodies are made up of a head, trunk and limbs and that people die when their hearts stop. A beautiful poetic perspective on growing up and the loss of innocence.
The dream of Europe. The stalemate of the expat. The dream of coming back. The reasons beyond choosing prostitution. The loss of innocence. The goddamm Spanish ‘conquistadores’ neglecting historical importance of Portugal. The silent night in Moroccan desert. A supercharged history of sculptor Constantin Brancusi’s infamous ‘Princess X’, a futuristic bronze phallus that is actually a bust portrait of Napoleon’s equally infamous great grand niece, Marie Bonaparte.
They all are part of our next Cinemaattic cocktail!
