GLITCH Film Festival Moonlight

Fri 24 March 2017

Moonlight

Moving through three life eras and evolving names of Little, Chiron and Black, some constants in the life of Chiron are his close relationship with childhood friend Kevin, his mother and the passing cruelty and lingering friendship of strangers. In a world where its existence is effectively forbidden, his sexual desire for men is turned inwards and hidden. This important and award-winning film explores complexities of contemporary black masculinity in the US through the prism of lovingly observed specificities. The lush score, at times dreamy imagery, and the choreography of movement of people through the shots, expand on the commanding central performances.

Moonlight | Dir. Barry Jenkins | 110 mins | USA | 2016
