INCLINATIONS film club presents the U.K. premiere of
A.I. At War
Directed by Florent Marcie
Year: 2021
Duration: 1h 47m
Languages: Arabic/English/French
In the war zones of Mosul and Raqqa, then in Paris during the Yellow Vests uprising, the veteran photojournalist Florent Marcie confronts Sota, an AI robot, with the tragedy of humankind. The survivors and participants in these conflicts speak to the robot, wondering about what it is to be mortal, about language, compassion, the nature of images and the burning and universal desire for justice.
“We find ourselves, as a biological and cultural species, in a form of devastation. We don’t really know where we are going and we are threatened from all sides. Artificial intelligence is like a spirit that hovers over our heads and our lives, like an artificial consciousness in the cloud that envelops the earth.”
(Interview with Florent Marcie from the film press-kit)
Florent Marcie is a self-taught photojournalist who has self-produced a number of award-winning documentaries. Over a period of thirty years, he has crossed, camera in hand, the great historical moments of his time — the fall of the Soviet empire, September 11, 2001 and the war in Afghanistan, the Arab Springs and the fall of the Islamic State.
