Sophie Mackfall: A Torrent of Short Form Thinking

Sat 17 September — Fri 30 September 2011

Install view of the show, a geometric quilt hangs from the ceiling and a small painting sits on the far right wall.

A torrent of short form thinking

Sophie Mackfall's painting practice is rooted in painting's transformative, mediated physicality. She is interested in exploring process, control of the paint medium and the relationship between the source of a work and its outcome. Working on a small scale, the intimacy of the work allows for a tactile intensity that indirectly draws attention to the works object-hood.

For Intermedia, Mackfall will present new work influenced by a one month residency at Cove Park undertaken in May 2011. Alongside paintings, she has developed works that operate spatially for the first time. Assembled objects, images and works in gouache, chalk and frottage have been used as a method of drawing out form combining different surfaces, forms and content.

Mackfall graduated in 2008 from the Glasgow School of Art. In May 2011 she completed two years as a committee member for Transmission Gallery, Glasgow. Most recently Mackfall exhibited at The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh and AMP, Athens.
