Christopher Baker’s book explores the fascinating and complicated history of this iconic painting, and contributes to the debates it continues to stimulate - see the extensive recent press coverage around the painting's acquisition for the nation by the National Galleries of Scotland. Publication of the book will coincide with the painting's tour to four Scottish venues in 2018 (Inverness, Perth, Paisley and Kirkcudbright).
