"Stories are seeds. We need to learn how to sow other stories about plants."
–Natasha Myers
On the autumnal equinox, take a pause to spend time handling and studying a diversity of seeds, gathered from a nearby community garden, G3 Growers.
With local artist Daria Zapala, practise close observation, drawing and mark making, learning more about the anatomy and physiology of seeds. And with Rowan Lear from Glasgow Seed Library, consider the role of dormancy, seasonality and ecological adaptation in the life of a seed. Together, we will ponder on what sharing time and space with seeds might teach us about care, solidarity and survival.
This workshop is open to all ages, all materials provided and no experience is required.
About the organisers
Organised by Glasgow Seed Library with G3 Growers and Daria Zapala.
Daria Zapala is a contemporary artist who works in painting, printmaking and multimedia. She has exhibited widely both in the UK and overseas and has worked for several arts organisations, including Glasgow Print Studio, Gallery of Modern Art and CCA Glasgow.
G3 Growers is a voluntary community gardening group based at The Back Garden, a vibrant urban oasis in Finnieston.
Glasgow Seed Library is a collection of seeds and a community of growers. Hosted by CCA, the library stocks organic and open-pollinated vegetable, herb and flower seeds for everyone to borrow, grow and save. Throughout the year, Glasgow Seed Library organises free workshops, talks and events around seed stewardship, community growing and earth care.
