Amongst his many other achievements, Stephen Watt became Dumbarton FC’s Poet-in-Residence in 2016. This special Book Week Scotland Event, kindly supported by the Scottish Book Trust, will explore the origins of this residency and how it works for both poet and club.
As well as hearing the poetic fruits of Stephen’s time with the Sons of the Rock there will be a discussion led by Co-Chair of the Scottish Writers’ Centre Christie Williamson and the chance for your burning questions around poetry, residencies and Scottish League Football to be addressed.
Stephen Watt has been Dumbarton FC’s Poet-in-Residence since 2016. Author of five poetry collections, Stephen was recognised as the first “crime poet” to perform at Bloody Scotland Crime Writing Festival, appointed the inaugural Poet-in-Chief for the Hampden Collection in 2018, and the Makar for the Federation of Writers (Scotland) in 2019. He has edited two punk poetry collections on behalf of The Joe Strummer Foundation and Buzzcocks, and has won titles including Poetry Rivals Slam Champion, the Tartan Treasures award, and the StAnza International Digital Poetry Slam award. In October 2021, he was appointed as Poetry Editor for Nutmeg football periodical.
