Singing The Alphabet
The drop-in session is open to all on Saturday 28th October 2023 from 1pm-4pm at the CCA Creative Lab. The session will be led by the current resident artist, Eye Suriyanon, where she has been exploring how the duality of her Thai-British identity and language can be presented based on Jacques Derrida’s Monolingualism of the Other. As well as unearthing the CCA’s Archive of work by artists of the diaspora who presented similar themes.
Participants will be given a text score with English and Thai alphabets and their phonetic versions. Participants will be asked to follow and recall the pronunciation made by Eye, as well as given the chance to vocalise the text score based on their interpretation of these characters. Participants can stay as long as they like. By taking part in the recording, participants give permission/consent for the artist to use the recorded vocals for development and exhibition use.
Refreshments and snacks will be available throughout the session as a token of appreciation to participants.
