CCA / AC Projects Creative Lab Music Residency

2016/17 Call for Submissions

Mon 16 November — Sun 15 November 2015

CCA Creative Lab

CCA and AC projects are pleased to continue with a residency opportunity for musicians or composers based in Scotland who wish to explore new ideas and methods in the Creative Lab residency space.

CCA is working with AC Projects to offer one research and development residency specifically for musicians and composers who have an interest working collaboratively across art forms.

Creative Lab objectives:

• An opportunity for emerging and established artists to have time to develop new ideas, rather than focusing on the final outcome.
• To give artists an opportunity to show their investigations to the public and peers for feedback.
• To provide networking opportunities with other users of the building, including artists, cultural tenants and other CCA/AC Projects contacts.

General information:

The Creative Lab space at CCA is a light and versatile room (approximately 7m x 11.70m). Support for the Creative Lab can include use of a small residential space to sleep one person for one month between July 2016 and March 2017 (depending on availability). Technical assistance for sound and lighting can also be requested. CCA and AC Projects may also be able to assist with administrative or other production needs. CCA and AC Projects has £1000 allocated for each 4-week Creative Lab, or £500 for a 2-week residency (which should cover any production or technical costs for in-progress showings etc).

In addition, the successful applicant will receive mentoring from Alasdair Campbell, Creative Director of AC Projects, as well as access to sound recording equipment and technical assistance for the development of new work.

Dates:

1 residency of up to 4 weeks between April 2016 – March 2017.
The time slots for the Creative Lab space are on a fixed diary with other residencies taking place in the space throughout the year. Please let us know your preferred month and we will notify you of the closest available slot.

Selection process:

Applications from artists based in Scotland will be particularly welcome.

General criteria:

• Time spent must be on development of the applicant’s own, original work.
• Creative Lab time is for research rather than rehearsal time.
• We are primarily looking for musicians or composers who have an interest in interdisciplinary or collaborative work. The focus is on the contemporary musician who specialises in the realisation of ideas.
• Applicants will be required to share their work in a format to be discussed with CCA and AC Projects, such as an open studio day, a talk, or a work-in-progress performance.
• Applicants must also help with evaluation and provide appropriate documentation of their Creative Lab.
• Artists must conform to CCA’s Health & Safety rules and regulations.
• Equal Opportunities will be employed in the selection of these labs in line with CCA’s policies.

To submit a proposal:

Applications by email are preferred. Submissions should comprise of 1 single PDF document. If you need any help in providing information in this format please get in touch. This document should include:

• A brief (800 words max) description of the work you would like to investigate, including the conceptual basis, content, equipment and instruments used, and how much time you would need. Please include this as part of one overall PDF document.
• A brief description of technical requirements and equipment needs for the residency within the single PDF (CCA and AC Projects will endeavour to support these needs but can not guarantee meeting every requirement).
• A CV and list of experience included within the same PDF document.
• Supporting material: Website, Vimeo, Soundcloud or Dropbox links (or similar) to sound and/or video work or documentation and, where appropriate, images of recent work and/or documentation of recent work within the PDF. Please do not send links or a cover letter with the body of an email; ensure all links are contained within the PDF submission document.
• Hardcopy applications will be accepted but electronic application is preferred.
