Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini and Churchill walk into a bar… in Purgatory. Enter Sokurov’s fever-dream where deepfakes and doppelgangers are the least of our worries. Outside of Great Power politics, aside from the adoring masses, the great leaders are a detritus of our hopes and fears, and we are dust swirling in the wind.

The Russian Ministry of Culture banned festival screenings and distribution of the film, which was soon followed by an informal ban on screenings of all of Sokurov’s previous works which include pioneering essay films, slow cinema and a single-take feature. We have worked with Juno Films to bring you this screening, it will be its Scottish premiere.
