Colors of Tobi (Alexa Bakony, Hungary, 2021) + Short film (Brick Head)

Scottish Premiere; Winner of the Jury Prize at the Guadalajara Film Festival; World Premiere at the BFI Flare 2021

This timely debut documentary by Alexa Bakony follows transgender teenager Tobi and his family in a small Hungarian village. His mother, Eva, is supportive of her son but battles against her own grief of ‘losing’ the daughter she had had and the immense transphobia both within their local community and the wider world.

Short: Brick Head (Alexis Manenti, Serbia, 2022)

In an Eastern European town, a young gang leader is terrorizing his neighbourhood. He forces everyone to carry a brick as a sign of submission. One day, an adolescent humiliated by the tyrant decides to fight back.

Samizdat is supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network, and funded by Screen Scotland and National Lottery funding from the BFI.
