We regret this residency has been cancelled.
Helen McCrorie works in video, sound, installation and events.
Her practice combines documentary methods and the form of the film-essay, with experimental improvisation and collaboration.
Helen’s work is concerned with human ecology and sites of work, play and ritual. She is interested in how we generate meaning and relate to the environment and each other through social activities. Her films often focus on spaces that hold tensions between emancipation and control, using moving image to question social power structures from a feminist perspective.
She views art and film-making as sites of creative learning and exchange, drawing from her involvement with community level organisations.
Continuing recent investigations of play and learning, Helen will use the residency to collaborate with other artists and community groups, focusing on tactile and sonic play and the voice.
On 28 March, Helen will screen her recent film, If play is neither inside nor outside, where is it?, 2019, commissioned for Collective’s Satellites Programme. This will be followed by an open studio event and an informal discussion on play and data-gathering.
