Creative Lab Residency
Tom Varley
Mon 13 May — Fri 7 June 2019
Tom Varley
Over the course of four weeks in the Creative Lab, Tom will be working on a series of short films about ways that economy shapes subjectivity; about peoples' inner lives and the things they do for money. Each film focusses upon a single character, each appearing alone and off guard as they rehearse their interactions with friends, colleagues, bosses and lovers. Filmed on 16mm, the individual works explore various conventions of narrative filmmaking, attempting to suggest a story with the fewest ingredients possible.
Tom is a graduate of Goldsmiths College and Glasgow School of Art. Tom’s work has been shown in exhibitions and screenings at venues including, Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum; MUPO Oaxaca; Global Committee New York; Volksbuehne Pavilion Berlin; Tramway Glasgow; and Whitechapel Galley, London.
