Creative Lab Residency
Tom Walker
Mon 4 August — Sat 30 August 2014
Tom Walker
Tom Walker will use his Creative Lab residency to continue his investigation into the differing modes of organisation and presentation at work within counter and queer culture in post-Stonewall society, examining political and aesthetic responses to both times of crisis and celebration.
Following on from research developed during his recent residency at Stills Gallery, Tom will experiment with techniques of documentary filmmaking, performance and writing, questioning the standard aesthetic frameworks through which political agency is presented and received. The work continues Tom’s interest in the identification of liminal space through interrogation of both esoteric and commercial forms of production and documentation. As a writer Tom has examined cinematic and literary tropes, playfully deconstructing them with the aim of unveiling alternative visual narratives. By imagining familiar images within renewed contexts, new meaning and functionality will hopefully emerge.
Tom will be inviting discussion and collaboration throughout the residency period.
