Creative Lab Residency
Sofia Niazi
Sat 26 June — Sun 11 July 2021
Sofia Niazi
Sofia Niazi’s Creative Lab investigates natural fibres, pigment and experimentation in moving image.
It includes reflecting on and processing learnings and materials produced during a two-day natural yarn dyeing workshop in Loch Ness with Dwynwen Hopcroft. Using the Publication Studio, Niazi aims to create a swatch book with notes to inform a greater involvement with the processing of materials employed in her fibre arts work.
Alongside this, the Lab will explore an ongoing interest in the translation of artworks through different mediums and technologies, with a focus on developing a range of weavings from naturally dyed yarn that are photographed, printed and strung together through moving images. With no set intention for the content, the works will be guided by intuition and repetition.
