Article 12: Right to Privacy

The Named Person programme, which will go nationwide in August, will mean that everyone under 18 is appointed someone “to listen, advise and help a child or young person and their family”. This has been hugely controversial, and the No to Named Person campaign – who say the policy “permits the state unlimited access to pry into the privacy of families in their homes” – are about to take their case to the Supreme Court. How do we strike the right balance between children’s rights and adults’ right to privacy? What are the implications for the right to health? You are invited to join a panel of experts – on both sides of the Named Person debate – to explore the issue.
