Growing for seed at Lambhill Stables Community Garden
Want to learn to grow from seed-to-seed? Join our small, social garden team and help take care of crops grown for Glasgow Seed Library.
Working outdoors in all weathers at Lambhill Stables, we will be sowing, mulching, netting, composting, weeding, harvesting and monitoring the progress of our plants.
Over the course of the year, we will learn together how to successfully grow, nurture and nourish crops for organic seed production. Learn techniques to build up a healthy soil, how to control pests naturally and what kinds of care are needed by different plants.
At the end of the season, our harvested seeds will be dried, sorted and packed for Glasgow Seed Library, for the community to grow in 2024.
Field Days are perfect for anyone who is keen to get outdoors, be hands-on and learn-by-doing. No prior experience is necessary, just enthusiasm!
Please wear warm, waterproof layers, and if you have them, gardening gloves and outdoor boots.
In September we will finish building our new raised bed and plant out our overwintering brassicas and lettuce. We will harvest our leek seeds and collect and wet process our tomato seeds. We will also attempt some winter squash hand pollination again! We will gather the Lambhill Stables Cafe at around 1pm for some soup and cake.
Meet us at the garden shed at the top of the field at Lambhill Stables: you do not need to stay all day, drop-in and leave when you like.
Accessibility
Lambhill Stables has a sloping community garden, with a mixture of hard and soft surfaces. Some Field Day tasks can be made accessible to people with a range of mobilities, including wheelchair users.
