Want to learn about growing for fibre? And help create a uniquely Scottish flax?
This year, the Sacro Garden Project has been growing flax to make into linen. Glasgow Seed Library sourced the seeds for this project and noticed that only Dutch, Belgian and French varieties are available to buy. We decided to trial the creation of a new landrace variety to contribute to the revival of flax growing in this region.
Join a workshop to process the seeds from this first crop, ready to sow again next year. Come learn about seed saving and the importance of landrace varieties. We’ll also have a go at the first stages of processing the crop to make linen. This will be our first
time, so come learn together!
Flax Day is perfect for anyone interested in seed saving, traditional fibre making or sustainable fashion.
The event will take place indoors in an unheated space, so please dress warmly! We will have access to hot refreshments. Accompanied children of all ages are very welcome.
