Glasgow Film Festival 101 Reykjavik
Fri 6 March 2020
101 Reykjavik
Based on the classic Icelandic novel by Hallgrímur Helgason, 101 Reykjavík was a cultural smash upon release in 2000, winning the Discovery Award at Toronto International Film Festival. Hlynur, circling 30 and still living with his parents, is wasting life away either in a deadbeat bar or at home downloading porn. Life leads him down a different path when his mother’s friend Lola comes to visit, a flamenco dancer whose enigmatic ways entrances Hylnur. But is Lola’s relationship with Hylnur’s mother all that it seems? An iconic piece of Icelandic cinema.
