You Will Die at 20
Winner of the best debut feature at Venice, Amjad Abu Alala’s moving, beautiful and deeply personal drama finds a metaphor for Sudan’s fight for democracy in the struggles of one individual. Muzamil (Mustafa Shehata) faces a childhood prophecy that he will die the day he turns 20. How can he live and love under a death sentence? His father leaves. His mother protects and mourns him. Others prepare for his demise. He is in a limbo, defined by compliance with his destiny until he finds a father figure with a broader view of the world in cinephile Sulaiman (Mahmoud Elsaraj).
