Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra GIOfest XI International Festival of Improvisation Day 1

Day One: Three Sets

The first of these will be performed by GIO, to launch the festival. GIO now has over thirty permanent members and this new work will feature contributions from some of GIO’s latest recruits. Throughout the festival we will also be featuring some of our guests, including the amazing clarinettist Lori Freedman from Canada, our dearest friend and enchanting vocalist Maggie Nicols and the great vibraphonist Corey Mwamba.

The second set will be a new performance by the legendary Instant Composers Pool, from Amsterdam, featuring some of the great pioneers of free improvisation, including Han Bennink, Wolter Wierbos and Ab Baars – join us as they celebrate their 50th anniversary year.

The final set for tonight will be a new joint collaboration between the Instant Composers Pool and GIO, involving scored free and conducted elements.
