Distressed by her widowed father’s plans to remarry, schoolgirl Gorgeous sets off with six of her friends in tow for a summer getaway in her aunt’s isolated mansion.

When successful commercial director Nobuhiko Ôbayashi was invited to make his full-length debut with Japan's answer to the blockbuster success of Jaws, he turned to his young daughter for inspiration. This formally deranged, phantasmagoric melodrama-horror hybrid, from a story by 13-year-old Chigumi, was the result.
