Join a community harvest and seed celebration!
This October, Glasgow Seed Library joins forces with our friends Alexandra Park Food Forest and Glasgow Apple Pressing.
There will be practical seed saving workshops, apple juice pressing, garden tours, tasty seasonal treats cooked on the fire, drawing activities and more.
Bring your seeds for wet and dry processing together (for example, tomatoes, dried bean and pea pods, brassica pods, whole squash or marrow, grain and wildflower seedheads).
Learn about Alexandra Park Food Forest’s vision for an urban ‘commons’, where we can work together as guardians of the land, living in reciprocity with our more-than-human kin, while producing nutritious food and other benefits for the local community.
Free, all welcome!
About the organisers
Alexandra Park Food Forest was designed and planted in 2016 by local residents in Dennistoun. It is a social enterprise with the purpose of growing and sharing seasonal produce, improving habitats for wildlife, helping people to learn land-based skills and reconnect with the living world, and demonstrating the benefits of an urban commons. Alongside the ongoing stewardship of the Food Forest, this year they took on an additional Kitchen Garden site, working with a team of volunteers to grow veg and cook together.
Glasgow Apple Pressing is a collective of volunteers, providing a free service every Autumn for the people of Glasgow and beyond. They support people to make use of the yearly apple glut, to share their bounty, and enjoy making and tasting local diy food and drink.
Glasgow Seed Library is a collection of seeds and a community of growers. The library stocks organic and open-pollinated vegetable, herb and flower seeds for everyone to borrow, grow and save. Throughout the year, Glasgow Seed Library organises free workshops, talks and events around seed skills, community growing and earth care.
Getting here
You can find us in Alexandra Park at what3words:///pinch.happy.soak, or follow the left-hand path towards the Bike Hub: the Kitchen Garden polytunnels are visible on the right. You can take a train to Alexandra Parade, and several buses (38, 38A, 38B, 38C, 38E) stop nearby.
Accessibility
Unfortunately, Kitchen Garden and Food Forest is not wheelchair accessible: the ground is sloped, rough and uneven. Please note that there are no formal toilet facilities on site. The closest toilets are in cafés and pubs on Alexandra Parade (a 6 minute / 0.3 mile walk away). A makeshift outdoor toilet will be available for 'wild wees'.
Please email glasgowseedlibrary@cca-glasgow.com if you’d like more information about the site or would like to make an access request.
