JTTE Screening Programme

In the JTTE screening programme - the work of Cassils is presented in "Inextinguishable Fire" which enacts a full-body burn on film and in front of a live audience. Using techniques borrowed from Hollywood stunts, Cassils experiences the very real human terror of being lit on fire. Using a Phantom camera that shoots at 1000 frames per second, the 14-second full body burn is extended to 14 minutes of slow motion flame. The title of the work references Harun Farocki’s eponymous 1969 film, which reflects on the impossibility of effectively representing the horror of napalm on film. Moving image works from among others - Thai auteur Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Festival Director Jian Yi, round out this fresh program of mesmerising films.

JTTE festival events are 18+ and may contain coarse language, adult themes, nudity and/or flashing lights. Artist conversations and lecture series may have limited capacity for ticket holders and will be available for entry on a first come / first served basis - with a live captioned video link available outside the room for viewing the talks otherwise. Festival pass offers access subject to capacity to all events at all venues, except for the 2 artist workshops (ticketed separately). Individual venue passes offers access subject to capacity to venue events at one location, except for the 2 artist workshops (ticketed separately).
