Kayo Mikami Butoh Dance Workshops
Sat 24 November — Sun 25 November 2018
Gangio Gangioma
Kayo Mikami is a world renowned performer and student of Butoh founder Tatsumi Hijikata. From Tokushima Prefecture in Japan, Mikami has performed, taught and written extensively on Butoh. She will give a masterclass at CCA over two days. Participants can attend one or both days, and no prior experience is required.
Butoh is an immersive dance form originating from Japan and dubbed the Dance of Darkness (Ankoku Butō). Mikami trained with the founder of the art form Hijikata Tatsumi, and has spent several decades refining, performing, teaching and writing about Butoh.
This workshop is open to all; Butoh is a dance form with great therapeutic potential and all body types and abilities are accepted.
The workshop will culminate in a rare solo performance in the CCA theatre on Sunday night alongside Scottish performers Paul Michael Henry and Suzi Cunningham. Workshop participants can attend the performances for free.
