Canterbury Tales qhx1
Join us for the penultimate film in the series and explore how contemporary depictions of the Middle Ages intersect with and shed light on 21st-century anxieties and preoccupations.
The Second film in Pier Paolo Pasolini's Trilogy of life: The Canterbury Tales paints a truly rampant depiction of Medieval England seen through a critical and modernist lens. With a focus on sex, death, and transformative transgression, The Canterbury Tales tirelessly probes the paradoxes of persecution and queer performativity throughout modern history. In the film, we witness Pasolini fully embrace the role of Geoffrey Chaucer to create a beautiful and feverish glimpse at the power of storytelling and the political agency of the medieval canon.

The film will begin with a short introduction by artist and local icon Sgàire Wood;
Sgàire's work is concerned with seizing the means of identity production and reclaiming the narratives that directly, or indirectly, dictate our own performances. Sgaire, like Pasolini, uses her performances to construct an anachronistic and temporally ambiguous space that is ripe for dissection and debate.
MMC believes in democratizing the Middle Ages and welcomes discussion from anyone interested in the subject matter, from any background.
