A herb of princely authority

Organised by Glasgow Artists Moving Image Studios with Glasgow Seed Library, Modern Nature is inspired by the filmmaker Derek Jarman and his beloved garden at Dungeness. Together, the group will read writing on and by Jarman, watch extracts from his films, and delve into his queer gardening methodologies – cuttings, foraging, beachcombing.
Modern Nature will grow alongside the development by GAMIS of Batson Street Laboratory (Bat. Lab.): a temporary outdoor cinema and social space beside the historic site of Govanhill Picture House. Later in July, the group will also have the chance to meet IRL at the Bat. Lab. to begin to develop the space and plan the garden.
For our fifth gathering, we will read and discuss Chapters 7 - 8 (July and August) of Derek Jarman’s Modern Nature. The meeting will take place online via Zoom. Automated captions will be available throughout the event, and audio and text versions of the reading will be provided in advance.
You can listen to previous recordings on Soundcloud.
