Hajar and Saud Al-Dughaim

We’ll be closing our festival with a night of music to raise funds for the Masharawi Films Fund in Gaza, a fund empowering filmmakers in Gaza to continue telling their stories. Saud Al-Dughaim will welcome us back into the Atrium with a variety of traditional Oud music, ranging from Levantine folk traditions to Bedouin melodies. After Saud’s set we will move into the Third Eye Bar with Hajar DJing as we celebrate the end of Falastin Film Festival in Glasgow.

About the guests

Saud Al-Dughaim, a native of the Mashriq and born to a Bedouin tradition. He is twenty years of age, and pursues the study of music with a deliberation and purpose that seeks understanding over formality, and clarity over display.

He is skilled in playing the oud, with a particular devotion to Bedouin melodies, Levantine folk traditions, and the fine structures of classical Arabic music. He finds music to be a matter of spirit over entertainment, and a continuation as well as a review of heritage over a performance for novelty.

Hajar is Palestinian-Egyptian and grew up in Beirut, later moving to Edinburgh. In 2023 she published a short book on Beirut’s Underground Music Scene, a series of interviews and photographs with underground Lebanese musicians, their community, and use of space within Beirut's quick pace of change. She is also part of the DJ duo with Nara, under the name Shahrazadi. They jump eras, genres and continents, that are deftly interwoven by a thread of melody and percussion from across the Middle East.
