Soft City

We are inviting 16-18-year-olds at Glasgow City Council schools to participate in a creative workshop delivered in collaboration with the CCA’s Schools and Young People Programme and Glasgow Life’s Heritage Artists in Communities, Alice Brown and Ellie Mills.

Alice and Ellie are exploring Sauchiehall Street’s retail heritage, cultural uses and the places where people would meet. Through Feminist City Thinking, their project aims to engage communities in reclaiming shared spaces and envisioning a future safer, and more accessible city centre.

We are inviting pupils studying creative subjects from across Glasgow to attend a workshop. Pupils will experiment with embroidery, textiles and readymades to create a collective map and buildings for the future. Pupils will attend the workshop by themselves during school time. Travel and lunch will be paid for by the CCA. Sam, the CCA’s Schools and Young People Coordinator will be the main contact between the schools, pupils and artists.

Why should you take part?

  • You will get a chance to meet peers from other schools with similar interests.
  • You will experiment with a range of materials
  • You will be an integral part of research that informs the regeneration of Sauchiehall Street and the wider city.
  • You will collaborate with working artists.
  • The work created would be a great addition to your college/university portfolios.
