Sonica Talks: Marcela Armas & Gilberto Esparaz in Conversation
Mexican artists, Marcela Armas and Gilberto Esparza discuss the inspiration, creation and development of their sonic installation, Sideral with Nina Cameron, Planetarium Manager at Glasgow Science Centre. This 82kg chunk of space debris named Boxhole, found in Australia in 1937, and on loan from the Natural History Museum in London, provides the foundation for the installation. Cradled in spidery wooden sensor-limbs that ‘read’ the meteorite, Sideral generates an eerie, modulating music that also tells the story of its almost unimaginable journey through the void.
