Hogarth Etching of Weavers

Here is Glasgow's first recorded strike in 1787 which saw working class strikers shot dead by the State for 'combining' or forming a union which was illegal. They rallied 7000 supporters on Glasgow Green, used petitions, demonstrations and sabotage to fight for justice. You can visit their grave in the Weavers Cemetery in Abercrombie Street, Glasgow. Dr Elspeth King curator and activist will take us through the escalation of this struggle followed by a member of the Industrial Workers of the World who will take us through local events and discuss revolutionary syndicalism.
