Will Foster and Guyan Porter: Subject to Change Without Notice*

SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE* aims to confront, challenge, deneutralise, magnify and make visible those tiny little sentences that could be detrimental to your expectations as a consumer, and your rights as a citizen.

In SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE*, Will Foster and Guyan Porter took up residence in Centre for Contemporary Arts, Intermedia. The artists created a laboratory, focusing on ‘making small print visible’ in the production of a series of texts, screen-prints, performances and projections. Intermedia at CCA was transformed into a publicly accessible centre for researching, exploring, reconsidering and re-presenting the enormity of small print and ambiguous text that floods contemporary society. By confronting and magnifying these subliminal texts, the artists and participants attempted to make visible what is usually meant to go unread or unseen. SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE* is an on going project that will be reinvented for different environments and further provide a stage for participation and dialogue. Inviting others to explore the complex subject of ‘small print’- an element of media and institutional output that is ever present yet often overlooked.

‘Small print – noun. 1 printed matter in small type. 2 inconspicuous but binding details or conditions printed in an agreement, advertisement or contract.’
Oxford English Dictionary, 2009

SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE* was supported by: Glasgow City Council, Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art 2010, Ashton screen print, Bierley Electronic Magnifiers, Danwood, Modern Standard Design, WorkWear House
