Scottish Ensembles SE Sessions a7m3
The exceptional musicians of pioneering string orchestra Scottish Ensemble are joined by the highly-acclaimed duo Chris Stout (fiddle) and Catriona McKay (Scottish harp) for a varied night of music in the relaxed surroundings of Saramago Cafe Bar.
Scottish Ensemble, Chris and Catriona have a long history together as both musical collaborators and friends, making for inspired, alchemic performances showcasing the dynamism, power and rich variety of music for string instruments. For this one-off summer session, they’ll treat you to a trademark performance crossing musical genres and styles. Expect impressive displays of virtuosity across works for solo strings and the full ensemble, Celtic-inflected pieces of haunting beauty, intriguing gems from a host of twentieth-century composers, and more.
"…comprehensively demolished perceived barriers between classical and traditional music, along with notions about alleged limitations in a string ensemble. A glorious night for music in all its diversity."
