Take Me Somewhere 2021

The festival of contemporary performance returns for its fourth edition.

As the world begins to open some of its doors, theatre spaces remain closed… and so Take Me Somewhere has crafted an online festival programme for 2021 that will take audiences beyond the computer screen. True to the festival’s name and spirit, artists in the programme will invite remote audiences to immerse themselves completely in the work, whilst holding their (virtual) hand and taking them on a journey… somewhere.

Take Me Somewhere 2021 features over forty works, shows and events, including:

An intimate, meditative performance featuring a dancer and her dog;
An unexpected encounter with a stranger on the phone;
An exercise class that doubles up as a critical whiteness lecture;
A cable-access style show featuring three world-famous drag queens;
A late night, candlelit pirate radio station on Zoom;
A digital festival foyer, with art pop happenings and DJ sets;
A Québec Focus featuring film & performance works from Québecois makers
The return of sister festival, the beloved BUZZCUT, which takes over the final weekend.
And much much more…

This year the festival takes place at the Take Me Somewhere website, in the fab new Festival Hub members’ area, which also features a digital Festival Foyer for hanging out and chatting in between shows. Audiences can access the Festival Hub by purchasing a festival pass for £30/£20/£10 (price at the buyer’s discretion).

Access information

Take Me Somewhere endeavours to make the festival as welcoming and easy to engage with as possible. If there is anything we can do to make your experience more enjoyable please don’t hesitate to get in touch at karl@takemesomewhere.co.uk or call 07834 751536 and we will try our best to help.

All performances in our programme have a clear access section, on the Take Me Somewhere website, which identifies any additional support systems that are in place.

For the 2021 edition, the majority of the projects will be presented online. Take Me Somewhere have designed an access key as a useful navigational tool to help identify which projects you may be interested in.

Access Key

V - Highly Visual / No Text
Projects with this tag will be highly visual and contain minimal or no text.

S - Sound Based
Projects with this tag will be sound based, either audio works best experienced online, or predominantly text / sound based performances that have minimal visuals.

CC - Captioned
Projects marked CC will have live, or pre-recorded captions in English. These captions will express all text spoken, and any background sound that informs the action onscreen. For some of the performance the captions will be optional and instructions on how to turn on the cpations will be clearly described on the individual show pages.

BSL - Interpreted
Performances marked BSL will be interpreted by Hearing British Sign Language interpreters. On each show page it will list whether the Interpretation is happening live, or filmed separately & edited in.

Content Notes
We have included 'content notes' on the individual show pages. These will highlight if the project includes reference to; sexual violence, graphic violence, emotional abuse, child abuse, domestic abuse, miscarriage, terminated pregnancy, alcohol or substance addiction. We appreciate this list is not comprehensive and encourage you to confidentially get in touch if there is a particular subject matter not listed you wish to avoid.
