What’s the point of flowers? How do plants reproduce, and why does this matter when we are saving seed?

Join our Tending to Pollination workshop to learn about the natural processes that produce a great seed crop, and how we can harness these to maintain heritage seeds, increase their resilience to climate change, as well as breeding new varieties of our own!

This workshop will cover theory around plant anatomy, native insect species and companion planting as well as hands-on practical activities including flower isolation and hand pollination of squash.

Based in Galgael’s beautiful garden, there will be lots of examples of pollination in progress to draw inspiration from!

Please book a free place by emailing louisek@cca-glasgow.com

Note the workshop will take place mostly outdoors so come prepared for unpredictable Scottish weather: bring warm and waterproof layers, sunscreen and sturdy footwear for rough ground.

About the series

Tending to… is an ongoing series of workshops, designed to build people’s skills and confidence in growing from seed, and offer cheap, accessible and earth-friendly ways to care for seed crops in urban spaces. Organised by Glasgow Seed Library and hosted by community gardens around the city.

About the organisers

Organised by Glasgow Seed Library and hosted by GalGael.

GalGael is a working community based in Govan in the south west of Glasgow. They work together on demanding common tasks that help people regain a positive sense of both self and community.

Glasgow Seed Library
is a collection of seeds and a community of growers. The library stocks organic and open-pollinated vegetable, herb and flower seeds for everyone to borrow, grow and save. Throughout the year, Glasgow Seed Library organises free workshops, talks and events around seed skills, community growing and earth care.

Accessibility

The garden at GalGael is wheelchair accessible and there are accessible composting and indoor toilets on site. Please email glasgowseedlibrary@cca-glasgow.com if you have any other access needs.
