Being Gal Gael
Please note that this event will now start at 11am, not 1.30pm as previously advertised.
From a road protest group in the mid-nineties to one of Scotland's most acclaimed community organisations, the GalGael Trust is probably best known for making traditional boats at their workshop in Govan. Within that workshop though, a myriad of life-changing activities take place on a daily basis.
Having now reached their twentieth year in operation GalGael will share their unique story and relate how traditional crafts and building boats helps re-build people in one of Scotland's most hard pressed communities.
Keynote speakers and personal testimonies will outline how the GalGael approach may offer alternative insights into reversing the societal deterioration driven by the breakdown of meaningful activity within communities who fight to survive in a loveless economic system.
