Feel the Rhythm: Uncovering the Rich History of Afrobeat

Award-winning saxophonist & director of Nigerian Afrobeat band Lagos Thugs, Adetunji Adeyemi in joined by legendary guitarist Indy Dibongue (France/Cameroon) in Glasgow for an immersive journey through the vibrant history of Afrobeat!

Afrobeat emerged from the streets of West Africa, blending traditional Yoruba music, jazz, and fuji with American funk and soul, whilst discussing social justice movements, from Nigerian independence to Black Power. This interactive workshop and presentation will delve into the genre's origins, evolution and cultural significance.

Learn about legendary figures like Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, and King Sunny Adé, and how they shaped the sound of a generation. Through engaging storytelling, rare archival footage and a live performance by Afrobeat experts and performers, Ade and Indy will bring the Afrobeat story to life.
