Following the premiere of the collaborative film TR333 by April Lin 林森 and ecologist Dr. Nalini Nadkarni, join us for an informal conversation with April and Nalini as they share more about their collaborative process, their different practices, and their mutual love of trees.

TR333 is a speculative construction of a new species of tree for the year 2040. Using 3D animation, found footage, and a musical score based on data sonification, TR333 recasts the ecological crisis from a multispecies and affective gaze.

April Lin 林森

April Lin 林森 (b. 1996, Stockholm, they/them) is an artist-filmmaker investigating image-making as a site for the construction, sustenance, and dissemination of co-existent yet conflicting truths. They dream & explore & critique & fret & catastrophise & imagine & play with the potentials that the moving image holds - for a collective remembering of forgotten pasts, for a critical examining of normalised presents, and for a visualising of freer futures as, of course, imagined from the periphery.

Dr. Nalini Nadkarni

Often referred to as ‘the queen of canopy research’, Dr. Nalini Nadkarni has spent two decades climbing the trees of Costa Rica, Papua New Guinea, the Amazon and the Pacific Northwest, exploring the rich, vital world of animals and plants that live solely in the canopy; and how this upper layer of the forest interacts with the world on the ground. She communicates what she finds to non-scientists — with the help of poets, preachers and prisoners.

Nadkarni is the author of Between Earth and Sky: Our Intimate Connections to Trees, Emeritus Professor at The Evergreen State College, and is currently Professor of Biology at the University of Utah.
