The Performance of Diva

By Dianne McConnell
Composer: Adrian Stark

Lights, camera, action! Diva takes the centre stage.

Witness a dynamic display of Fantasy and Reality as they are intertwined through film, music, lights and choreography. Turning from familiar performance into an exploration of the unknown.

‘The Performance of Diva’ embodies the tension between the authentic and the commodified. Through experimental movement and raw storytelling, this performance dares to ask: Is the pursuit of public acceptance worth sacrificing the truth of who we are?

I invite you to experience a journey that challenges the boundaries of self-expression and leaves you questioning the true nature of identity.

Dianne McConnell (she/her) is a contemporary performance artist based in Glasgow with an interdisciplinary practice in dance and acting. Using her background in theatre and contemporary performance, she creates autobiographical work that interrogates identity. By intersecting choreography and persona, she engages with the authentic self to make space for reclaiming hidden identities in performance. Dianne’s hope for performance is that we may learn how to embrace the complexities of human identity: “Growing up in foster care has taught me that trauma plays a significant role in shaping who we are, yet how it defines us remains mostly unconsidered within society.”
