The Rise of the Far-Right Focus on the Brazilian Elections from a Scottish Perspective by CommonSpace

The Brazilian elections on 28 October could be a watershed moment in Latin America, and have repercussions across the globe. Far-right presidential candidate Jair Bolsonaro is favourite to become President. He has has said leftists will have to "go overseas, or go to jail", is an open admirer of when Brazil was a military dictatorship and takes pride in his misogyny and homophobia. His rise is part of a far-right wave, including in Donald Trump's election in the US and Matteo Salvini in Italy.
Jonathon Shafi, Scottish political activist, will be in Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro for the elections and will be speaking to left-wing campaigners about the situation on the ground. At this CommonSpace Forum, Jonathon will report back on what he found, why what is happening in Brazil is important for us and how we can resist the rise of the far-right.
All welcome to join the discussion (free entry).
