Join international performer, instructor, retreat leader Dorine Mugisha for an open dance workshop in Whacking/Waacking. Punking, later on commonly adapted and referred to as Whacking/Waacking, is a style that emerged in the 1970s underground gay clubs in LA by people of colour. This style is expressive and open, distinctive through the attitude/behaviour, posing and striking with force (whacking). It has more to do with the club than the dance studio.
This a free 90-minute version of the 75-minute-ish sessions that Dorine (or occasionally a special guest!) runs every Tuesday evening at Studio Ile Ache. For more information visit @dorine_mugisha and @whackingscotland.
This session will be audio and video recorded as part of doctoral research by art writer Adam Benmakhlouf. Adam's research is focused on learning and embodied experiences of expertly-led workshops.
